বিলুর বড় ভাই দুই দিন আগে চাকরি পেয়েছে। সেই দিন তাদের একটি বড়শি কোথাও হারিয়ে গিয়েছিল, আর তার সঙ্গে শ্যাওলাও হারিয়ে গিয়েছিল। কিন্তু বিলু কয়েক রাত ঘুমাতে পারল না — কেন, তা কেউই জানে না।

তার বড় ভাই বলল, “বিলু, তুমি সেদিন থেকে ঘরে এমন করে আছো কেন?” কিন্তু বিলু কিছুই বলল না। বড় ভাই আবার বলল, “শ্যাওলা আর বড়শিটা দুই দিন আগেই কোথায় গেল? তুমি কিছু জানো?” তবু বিলু চুপ করে রইল।

বিলুর বড় ভাই আর কিছু না বলে চলে গেল, আর বিলু ঘুমিয়ে পড়ল। বড় ভাই বুঝে গেল বিলুর কী হয়েছে। তারপর সে একটি লণ্ঠন হাতে নিয়ে বেরিয়ে পড়ল।

হেঁটে হেঁটে সে সেই জায়গায় গেল, যেখানে বড়শি আর শ্যাওলা হারিয়ে গিয়েছিল। তারপর কিছু একটা বেরিয়ে এল। কী বেরিয়ে এল?

একটা লাল বড় ভূত! বিলুর বড় ভাই চিৎকার দিল। ভূতটা বলল, “তোমাকে একটা কথা বলি — আমাকে এখনই বলো বড়শিটা কোথায়।” বড় ভাই বলল, “তোমার যেটা চাই, নিয়ে নাও।” ভূতটা বলল, “এবার তোমাকে ছেড়ে দিলাম — আর কখনো এদিকে এসো না।” বিলুর বড় ভাই বলল, “আচ্ছা।”

In English (draft)

Bilu's big brother had started a new job just two days earlier. That same day, one of their fishing rods went missing — and the bait went missing with it. But Bilu couldn't sleep for several nights, and no one knew why.

His big brother asked, “Bilu, why have you been shut up in the house since that day?” But Bilu said nothing. His brother asked again, “Where did the bait and the fishing rod go, two days ago? Do you know anything?” Still Bilu stayed quiet.

His brother said no more and walked off, and Bilu fell asleep. But the brother had worked out what had happened to Bilu. So he picked up a lantern and went out into the dark.

He walked and walked until he reached the very place where the rod and the bait had gone missing. And then — something came out. What came out?

A big red ghost! Bilu's brother cried out. The ghost said, “Let me tell you one thing — tell me right now where the fishing rod is.” The brother said, “Take whatever you need.” The ghost said, “I'll let you go this time — but never come back here again.” And Bilu's brother said, “All right.”
